Reflecting on 2016 + Favorite Outfits of the Year

It's hard to believe that 2016 is nearly over.
I know I've said it before, but where on earth did the year already go? Maybe it's the sleep deprivation that comes hand-in-hand with being a busy mommy of 3 (among other things) and accepting that the days only continue to accelerate in a hazy blur, but it seems this year has really come and gone in the blink of an eye.

2016 has been an exciting and fulfilling year for me.
I made the decision to start this humble, little fashion blog, which has been extremely rewarding and somewhat chaotic all at the same time (lol.) Blogging is certainly not an easy feat when you already feel like you're juggling a million responsibilities, never quite finding enough time in the day to accomplish everything you set out to, no matter how hard you try or how best your intentions.  And if you're even a bit of a perfectionist like I am, you never seem to quite perfect things the way you had hoped because something else always needs to get done or you're busy self-editing or self-analyzing.

All of that said, I wouldn't change it for the world. It has been such an amazing adventure and extremely rewarding to launch a creative space that shares my passion for all things fashion-related. And if I have helped inspire even a few readers over the course of the year, then I have fulfilled my purpose and feel immense pride. Really. I truly love sharing my favorite outfits, fashion finds and sale picks with you all, and enjoy highlighting pieces that can be re-mixed and re-worn to give you oodles of amazing, stylish outfits that don't cost an arm and leg yet make you feel beautiful and confident. Yes, even on those days you're feeling "blah" and barely have time to wash or brush your hair. If I can do it, you can do it. I promise you. I've been there more days than you probably realize. Social media is known to show the over-idealized view on everything, but remember -- nothing and no one is perfect. I'm not always polished, dressed glamorously, or leisurely sipping on coffee from the cutest gold monogram mug. (lol) But, I can also tell you: getting dressed and putting yourself together even just a little bit -- a quick swipe of lipstick or gloss, a pretty no-fuss dress that you throw on in 2 minutes flat -- can really do wonders to elevate your mood and confidence.

And that's what I hope to inspire every day.

So, thank you to each and every one of you who has followed along on my journey from day one, and to those of you who have been following me on Instagram over the years, and who encouraged me to venture out and start this blog.  I tend to be more of a private person in general, so it took some nudging from some seriously amazing ladies to get here, so I am indebted to them and to those of you who have really stuck by me, supported me, encouraged me, and uplifted me with your kind and thoughtful comments, likes, e-mail, etc. Admittedly, it can be all too easy to become discouraged in the all-consuming and over-saturated world of social media -- especially when you find yourself zooming in on those posts or photos that get less likes/comments than others or when you start comparing yourself to other, more "popular" bloggers. I myself am far too self-critical, and am working on it slowly; it's definitely something I want to improve upon in 2017. Surround yourself with those who are positive, uplifting and who champion your progress and success.

I have met some incredible people on this journey so far -- many of whom I am now grateful to call friends. It's such a wonderful thing when you can connect with like-minded people from all over the globe who are cheering you on. Let's try to spread more of that in the coming year. Everyone deserves kindness and a chance to shine.

Now, after my long-winded reflections, let's get to the outfits!

Here are the favorite outfits of the year, in no particular order. :-)

Seasonal Style: Blush Mock-Neck Lace Sheath Dress

J.Crew Lady Day Coat (also cute here - offered in reg & petites)
Ann Taylor Stretch Pearl Bracelet - old (similar here, here)
Vince Camuto Cresida Gold Pumps - sold out (similar here, here, here)

In continuing with my seasonal style series, I wanted to bring you a softer look today for all of your upcoming soirees.

Several of you who have been on the hunt for the perfect party dress may not necessarily favor the bolder shades of reds and greens that are so prevalent this time of year, or maybe you just prefer something closer to a neutral color palette. If you're nodding in agreement, then this look has been styled with you in mind!

This blush lace mock-neck sheath dress from Nordstrom is a gorgeous option and it's only $52!

It hits all the right chords: it's delicate, feminine, and absolutely beautiful. Plus, the blush color is soft and flattering to all skin tones. It also happens to fit like a dream thanks to its slimmer,
'body-con" fit. Sizing runs small (great for petites), so definitely size up one to two sizes for a more comfortable fit. For reference, I usually wear a size XS, but sized up to a Small per the recommended sizing information on Nordstrom's website, and it fits nicely. It hugs your curves while still allowing you to sit and move freely.

The mock-neck styling with the peek-a-boo lace is such a pretty detail. The rest of the dress from the bust down is fully lined in a blush-nude fabric, but you will still want to wear nude undergarments to err on the side of caution. ;-)

If you're looking for this same style of dress but prefer sleeves for more coverage/modesty for an office party or other conservative venue, then this is a lovely option as well as this belted one. Both of them offer petite sizing selections as well!

To keep warm, I draped my favorite J.Crew Lady Day Coat over my shoulders. I like that it adds elegance to the overall look as well. Any classic, well-fitting coat in a light color will pair nicely with this dress, but there's just something about the combo of winter-white and blush that I just adore, so I opted for this particular colorway.
(Side note: the J.Crew Lady Day Coats are definitely worth the investment; they're extremely well-made, have a flattering and classic cut, and are offered in regular, petite, and tall sizes in a variety of colors every season; that's why they're best-sellers!)

Finish this feminine ensemble with a pair of glittery-gold pumps and matching shoulder bag or clutch, and you're perfectly party-ready!

I hope you enjoyed this softer, seasonal look!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful evening!

Seasonal Style: Lady in Red

Eliza J Bow Sweater Dress (same style here, in fuchsia here, in cobalt here) //
Vince Camuto Cressida Gold Pumps - sold out online (similar here) //
Ann Taylor Pearlized Cabochon Earrings //
Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Eva Bag (pre-loved here) //
Tartan Plaid Blanket Scarf

The little red dress: classic, timeless, and beautiful.
It's also the next in a series of seasonal looks I've curated for you -- perfect for family gatherings, dinners, or parties that are filling up our calendars this time of year.

Isn't this red sweater bow dress just darling?
I love that it's dressy, flattering, and oh-so-comfy!
It's a great option for holiday parties, too (for those of you who celebrate) especially the office holiday parties where you want to achieve an elegant-yet-modest look.

The sweater material is super soft and not itchy in the slightest, which is great for those of you with sensitive skin like me.
The fit-and-flare silhouette is also extremely forgiving and not overly clingy, allowing you to breath easily and move comfortably even after over-indulging in your favorite treats. ;-)

Did I mention the extremely affordable price tag of $45?
This is such a steal for a beautiful, classic red dress!

Let's talk about the gathered bow at the neckline. Swoon!
It's such a lovely detail -- not too large or garish -- adding just the right touch of feminine flair.

The waist is slightly loose on me in the size Small but I prefer to leave some room for comfort. If you wanted a closer fit, I would suggest sizing down or having the waist/hips taken in to your liking.

To add some sparkle and "glam" to the overall look, I chose gold, metallic pumps. These Vince Camuto pumps are beautiful with their simple, sleek silhouette. Sadly, they have sold out online, however these are nearly identical and are just as beautiful. The shimmery gold plays off of the richness of the red in the dress nicely, plus this color combo is so perfectly festive, isn't it? And if there's ever a time to pull out the sparkly pumps, it's now for all the fun festivities!

These classic pearl stud earrings from Ann Taylor are easily some of my favorites; they look lovely with every outfit. They're understated yet elegant, and I wear them almost daily.
You can snag them now for 40% off with code 'PARTY40', bringing them to just under $18!

To finish the look, I added my Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Eva bag, which I wore as a clutch. I've had this bag for a few years now, and especially love it for its sentimental value. (I purchased it at the LV flagship store in Paris during a trip there with my husband.)
It is definitely an investment piece, and I am certainly not suggesting that you need an LV bag to complete this look. Any small clutch in a neutral color will work nicely. And if you're looking to add more interest, just choose a patterned or textured bag as I did here.

Plaid is another seasonal favorite, which I infused into this look by wearing this plaid blanket scarf as a wrap. At only $15, it's a great way to add another layer of dimension (and some warmth!) to your outfit by featuring all of the traditional tartan plaid colors of red, hunter-green, and white.

I hope you enjoyed this seasonal look! Stay tuned for more I'll be bringing to you soon!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful evening!
