Garden Florals & Stripes

It's safe to say that Spring fever has hit me full swing.
Yes, even amidst the sporadic rain storms that have been hitting L.A. recently. In between the gloomy, rainy days, there have thankfully been a string of warm and gorgeous days where temps have reached the mid-70s range. And on these days, I can't help but excitedly reach for all my favorite pretty floral-print blouses, flared skirts, and strappy sandals. There's just something about this combo that puts a little extra pep in my step. ;-)

What's not to love when garden florals and classic stripes collide? The juxtaposition of a soft, romantic print with a bold, classic one just works so well, and is one of my favorite mixes -- especially for Spring!

Every girl needs at least one pretty, floral blouse and one striped, flared skirt in her wardrobe, especially for creating the perfect pattern-mixed look. Both pieces are highly versatile on their own and can be easily mixed and matched with other pieces. I can never say no to florals and stripes, but combine them and it's all the heart eyes! This darling top shown here is actually a peplum top, which I'm styling as a regular tank. This is a great trick for diversifying your outfits and getting the most use of your favorite peplums -- just neatly tuck the peplum folds into your skirt until they are flat, and voila! The flare of the skirt will camouflage any remaining small lumps or bumps. Please don't try this trick with pencil skirts or other form-fitting skirts for obvious reasons. ;-)

If you're looking to add a few similar floral blouses to your wardrobe to re-create this look, try here, here, or here. These ones all have hushed tones that I love, and will contrast nicely with dark stripes. I also found a couple of cute and classic flared skirts at varying price points here and here.

My trick for pattern-mixing these two prints?
I always keep the print proportions varied.
If choosing a large floral print, I pair it with a thinner-striped print; inversely, I pair smaller/micro florals with thicker stripes. It keeps the look balanced and not overly busy. You can get creative and opt to add a third print, but more oftentimes than not, I limit the mix to only two prints; it's just my personal preference.

To break up the prints for this look, I added a wide, leather belt in a nude color. The neutral color doesn't compete with the other colors/prints, adds a nice textural element, and cinches the waist. I also like that it gives this look the effect of wearing a belted dress versus a top-skirt combo.

Cute, strappy sandals in a nude/camel color are also a must-have, not only for Spring, but year-round. I wear mine all.the.time. They look great with anything and everything and have the added benefit of elongating your legs -- yes and yes for us petite gals! Any time the weather warms up, you'll find me in these pretties. These criss-cross suede ones from Ann Taylor are so soft and comfortable, but the best part is their lace-back detailing. So fun! These exact ones are from last year and have since sold out, but I found a couple of similar suede options for you here and here.

My favorite Tory Burch Thea Triple-Zip Satchel in porcelain-pink completes the look and plays nicely off the flowers in the top. Simple and sweet.

Candy colors, stripes, bows, polka already know I'm salivating over these sale sweets from J.Crew!

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I've always been a longtime fan of J.Crew. These past few seasons in particular, though, they've really been blowing me away with their gorgeous selections!  I constantly find myself browsing all of their yummy colors and ogling over all the delicate ruffles, lace, and bow details. The recent style offerings just keep getting better and better, and my feminine-style-loving heart couldn't be happier!

I've rounded up several of my recent cravings -- all of which are on major sale. I think of all the Presidents' Day Sales going on this weekend, this is the one to really peruse and take advantage of, especially since several iconic pieces are included, which is rare.

But, my head is spinning because I'm also eyeing these:

Do you see my dilemma? (lol)

Which ones are your personal favorites?

If any of these have been on your wishlist, now is the time to grab them, especially with Winter stock being cleared out to make way for fresh Spring/Summer stock. For example, the Lady Day Coats are now less than $200 (most colors), the Chateau Parka is now less than $200, and the Icon Trench Coat in Italian Wool Cashmere is now only $130! As any J.Crew loyalist will tell you, these are exceptional values for classic, high-quality coats that normally retail for upwards of $400! They will last for years, too, making them a great, long-term investment.

Happy browsing/shopping, and I hope you enjoy the nice, long, holiday weekend!

Date Night/V-Day Look: Off-the Shoulder Striped Top

Some things just pull at your heart strings as soon as you see them.
This flirty, striped, off-the-shoulder number? This was one of them. I shared a sneak peek of this look on my Instagram a couple of days ago and received the most amazing compliments and direct messages from several of you (thank you so much!)

Is this not one of the cutest tops you've ever seen?
The navy stripes, the dramatic, chiffon-like bell-sleeves with tiny ribbon's feminine, flirty perfection, ladies.

You know I rarely wear off-the-shoulder tops since I'm limited to specific occasions to wear them, but once I saw this one online, I knew it would be the most darling top for date nights, parties, or even just a fun girls' night out. It's definitely an attention-grabber! It's also a great Valentine's/Gal-entine's Day top (inspiration for next year, for those of you who celebrate.) And with an affordable price tag of $35, you really can't go wrong.

An added bonus? This top is super stretchy and comfy. It's a thin knit/sweater material (polyester/viscose.) I'm wearing a size Small and it fits nicely. It's very petite-friendly thanks to the slim fit and shorter length. It's not a cropped length, but I could see that some ladies with longer torsos find that it runs on the short side. A

A small tip: because of the white stripes, you'll want to wear a nude or white strapless bra; you don't want any dark colors or patterns peeking through. Also important to note is that it's not machine-washable; it's hand-wash only, which makes sense given the delicate nature of the sleeves (which are described as "trumpet sleeves" in the item description...who knew?)

Since the navy stripes give it a slightly nautical feel, I styled the top with a high-waisted, side-button pencil skirt in winter-white. The buttons are a nice nod to a sailor skirt, playing into the nautical theme, yet remain subtle. Since the top is already quite dramatic, it was important that I keep the rest of the look sleek and understated; the last thing I wanted was to slip into dangerous territory of being "costumey." So, I chose a silhouette and color that both do a nice job of balancing it all out.

For a pop of color and extra feminine flair, I opted for my favorite pink suede pumps. Pink and navy always complement each other beautifully, and it's one of my favorite color combos. Plus, since this was my date-night look, I wanted to feel extra pretty, and pink suede pumps never fail me.

A quick swipe of pink lip gloss and I was all set. Hubby surprised me with the most gorgeous (and fragrant!) mix of light and dark pink roses, so naturally they made their way into the photos for this look. ;-)

I hope you enjoyed this fun, feminine, flirty look as much as I did!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you have an amazing, love-filled day!

P.S. Since first sharing this look on Instagram as mentioned earlier, it appears that sizes in this top are already very limited, so if you love it, snag it! And if your size is currently sold out, be sure to bookmark the page and keep checking back for pop-ups!

Dressy-Casual Style: Blush Lace Peplum & Heather-Grey Cardi

Sometimes you just want to keep it simple and sweet when it comes to dressing for the weekend or for dinner/drinks after work. For me, this usually means choosing a few key basics as the foundation of my outfit and then adding a few feminine, dressier pieces to elevate it. Those few extra touches really make all the difference, and if there's one thing I know to be true, it's that I feel my best when I'm on the dressier side of the style spectrum. It's just more "me."

This dressy-casual outfit is one I recently wore to lunch with family and one I typically wear when I'm out and about running errands. Now, before you speculate on the comfort of the pumps, as a small disclaimer, if I know I'll be gone most of the day, I do bring a pair of sensible flats or dressy sandals that I can swap out as needed for comfort (some pumps are just not practical for all-day wear, no matter how cute they are!) That said, as anyone close to me already knows, I'm in heels or pumps about 90% of the time for the simple fact that I just prefer them. ;-)

I chose pieces in a familiar-favorite color palette: blush, white and grey. Really, though, who doesn't love this color combo? It's soft, pretty, and flattering on everyone. The basic foundation pieces are the white skinny jeans and heather-grey open cardigan; they're both super comfy and look great dressed up or down.

I know I've talked about these Ann Taylor white jeans before, but they're worth another honorable mention since they're easily the best non-distressed white jeans I've ever owned. They are stretchy, considerably more opaque than other brands I've tried, and make your legs look long and lean. Yes and yes! I was thrilled to see that Ann Taylor brought them back this season, and that they are still offered in regular, petite, and tall sizes (though the tall sizes appear to be currently sold out online.) The petite length, with the ~26" inseam, is perfect for someone my height (5'2") and hits just at the ankles. I highly recommend them for anyone on the hunt for a well-fitting pair of white jeans.

This heather-grey cardigan has quickly become another of my wardrobe workhorses -- I can just throw it on and go. It's a longline open-front style, so it's a really great no-fuss option when you want to add a light layer to your outfit without adding bulk. This one is older from Forever 21, but I found a great match here for only $23! Or, if you prefer one with pockets, I found another great option here.

The blush lace peplum top, grey skinny belt, and blush bow block-heeled pumps are the feminine, dressier touches that I love. Peplum tops are always on heavy rotation in my wardrobe and this one from Ann Taylor was an awesome sale score. Unfortunately, it's completely sold out now, but you can easily re-create this look with another blush peplum top like this one (love!) or choose another blush lace top in a different style like this one or this one (so cute!) A peplum top adds such lovely, feminine flair to a basic pair of jeans, and if you don't already own one, I highly recommend you add one to your closet stat!

Lately, I've been belting several of my peplum tops, as you've probably noticed. They add the perfect finishing touch in my opinion, plus they add more definition to the narrowest part of your waist, which is always flattering. Belting your tops and cardigans with a slim and sleek belt instantly gives you a more polished look. I opted for a grey one here to keep the overall look cohesive.

And last, but not least...these blush bow block-heel pumps.
The color. The bows. The style. Perfection!
I'm doing a small happy dance over here. (lol) These are seriously darling and one of my favorite pairs of shoes! These are the J.Crew Etta Bow Pumps in pink, and they are not only beautiful, but extremely well-made with all-leather uppers and lining. They're also known as the "heels for the girl who only wears flats" because of their cushioned footbed and sturdy block heel. They're so comfy! These exact ones are sold out online, but you may still try your luck on ebay or Poshmark, as I've seen a few listings there from time to time. I also found a few similar options at varying price points herehere (sans bow) and here (splurge.)

Candy Stripes & Pleated Bell Sleeves

Have you ever slipped into an outfit and immediately felt bold, confident, and beautiful? This is one of those outfits for me. As soon as I put it on, I stood up straighter, put my game-face on, and felt empowered to take on anything the day threw at me. A little fierce maybe, but an outfit you absolutely love will do that for you.

To say that I'm slightly obsessed with this candy-striped blouse with micro-pleated bell sleeves is an understatement. I love it to pieces! It's surprising, actually, since I don't normally wear this style of blouse, and when I first saw it online I didn't think much of it. Then I tried it on (see my fitting room review here) and knew I had to have it. The creamy-white stripes mixed with the mauve, lilac, navy, and chartreuse stripes are so unique and eye-catching. And the sleeves...oh my gosh...the sleeves! So.stinking.cute.

This blouse is adorable on its own but I wanted to add another layer of texture for interest, so I styled it by layering this navy sweater peplum top over it and added a skinny metallic belt to cinch the waist. I love that it gives it a professional, classy, and modern look. And, thanks to the pleated sleeves, it adds a hint of drama.

This peplum top is another new favorite of mine; it's soft, stretchy, and looks great dressed up or down. I really wasn't looking to add another peplum top to my wardrobe, but I always have a hard time saying no to them, especially when they're as soft and pretty as this one. I also like the ribbed texture of it; it's a nice detail that separates it from a basic peplum tank. The sweater material itself is delicate, though, and I'll have to be extra careful when wearing my jewelry so I don't snag it. It's a darling, versatile top and I may nab the other chianti color now that it's currently on sale for 50% off.

To balance out the flare of the peplum top, I chose a slimming, navy pencil skirt. It really grounds the outfit, giving it a sleek, monochromatic look that's a nice contrast to the colorful and whimsical stripes of the blouse. I also kept the accessories neutral, choosing classic, grey suede pumps and a nude patent satchel to keep the focus on the blouse and peplum top.

My new double-breasted blush jacket is the cherry on top! I scored this gorgeous jacket on major sale when my size popped back in stock, and have been wearing it non-stop during chilly mornings/evenings with everything from jeans to dresses and skirts. It's extremely versatile, has a nice, sturdy weight to it, and the color is be-aut-iful! I love that the color plays off of the mauve stripes in the blouse, and the jacket itself adds another layer of class and elegance to the overall look.

Note: Sizes for this jacket keep popping back if you've been wanting to snag it, so keep checking online. It's currently on final sale, too, bringing it to ~$105 with code "SHOPNOW."  This one here is also a great alternative -- it's nearly identical, plus it's on sale for the same price using the same promo code.

I felt polished and pretty in this outfit all day and will definitely be repeating it in the near future. The upper half looks great paired with jeans, too!

Which outfits make you feel extra pretty?

As always, thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you have a wonderful evening!
