Flirty Fuchsia & Gingham

Every girl needs a fun, flirty dress in a gorgeous, bold color.  Cue this 'Jackie' dress from CeCe by Cynthia Steffe. It hits all the right chords: feminine, ruffled, cold-shoulder sleeve detailing; a flattering fit-and-flare silhouette; and a vibrant fuchsia color.

Isn't it a dream? I'm completely smitten with it.

Definitely file this dress under "Wow Factor" because the questions and compliments you'll receive while wearing it may overwhelm you. And your handsome date? Watch his eyes widen and do a double-take when he first sees you in this dress. Trust me. ;-)

This dress is so striking with its pretty details and its gorgeous, saturated "hot plum" color! It's certainly a show-stopper in its own right. But what I also really love about it is its ease and versatility. Slip it on, zip up the back, cinch the waist with the (removable) self-tie belt, and you're done. Easy peasy. I'm all about dresses that are both beautiful and non-fussy. (And affordable, but I'll get to that in a moment.)

I'm also impressed with the quality and fit. It's soft, drapey, and forgiving with a nice, interior lining to prevent any sheerness when the light hits it. Sometimes I find these styles of dresses to be flimsy and see-through. Not this one, though; it has a nice, medium weight to it and feels extremely well-made. Another bonus is that it's fairly wrinkle-resistant and machine-washable -- yay for no excessive steaming or dry-cleaning expenses!

If you're petite like me (I'm 5'2", 100 lbs, and measure 34-25-36) the length hits just below the knees. Depending on how the belt is tied, though, the length of the dress can easily be adjusted by tucking in some of the fabric under the belt, as I'm doing here. This is a small trick I've used over the years to adjust the hemlines of certain dresses to give it a different look. Without any tucking of the fabric, the dress has a lovely, modest length, and makes you look long and lean. Yes and yes!

Sizes range from 0 to 12, but some sizes have already sold out. The good news is that, while I was first browsing this dress on Nordstrom's website, I was also able to find it on Nordstrom Rack's website -- not only in more sizes, but for a much better price! *happy dance*
Typically, Nordstrom Rack will primarily carry Nordstrom store stock from prior seasons, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this exact dress being offered concurrently on both websites. It just goes to show you that you should always check and compare items from both websites for availability and for the best pricing. In this case, this dress retails for only $56.97 at the Rack vs. $76.80 at Nordstrom -- nearly a $20 difference!
(Keep in mind: Nordstrom offers free shipping on all items with no purchase minimum, whereas the Rack charges a flat rate of $7.95 for all clothing purchases of less than $100. In this case, though, the shipping cost I paid was still worth it, given the price difference of the dress.)

Needless to say, I'm so happy I took a chance on this dress! I love it to pieces and have already worn it multiple times. In fact, I initially bought it for the recent family vacation to CancĂșn I took several weeks ago. I wanted something colorful and beautiful yet low-maintenance, and it fit the bill perfectly. Adding a fun pair of tassel earrings and a cute pair of slides gives you a recipe for an easy, vacay, lunch or dinner outfit. I've also worn this dress out to dinner with friends, pairing it with heeled sandals, and felt pretty and comfy in it all evening. The flowy drape of the dress also conceals any evidence of meal over-indulgences, so that's another win. ;-)

Statement dresses like this one really do all the work for you. With all of its special details, you really don't need much in the way of additional styling or accessories. For this dinner look, I added my favorite pair of gingham pumps. I love gingham-print anything this time of year, and also love the way pink pairs with navy, so this combo was a no-brainer for me. Also, since I can't get enough of it, I took my beige Chanel flap out for a spin. It's my ideal, elegant, neutral bag, and it serves as a nice juxtaposition to the vibrancy of the dress and the whimsy of the pumps. Any neutral bag will work well with this look, and as I've said before, I'm not suggesting that a Chanel or other designer bag is required to create this look. Designer bags are indeed an investment, but I am also an advocate for affordable options that are equally stylish. This bag here, for example, is a great dupe for less, and would look lovely with this dress.

If you're looking for a fun, flirty dress with a pretty punch of color, this one's for you. I simply adore it. Wear it out for a date night, a girls' night out, a bridal shower, a spring- or summertime wedding -- the options are endless! And don't be surprised if you stop traffic in it. (lol) You are sure to get noticed. But I say walk tall and confidently in it and don't be afraid to strut. After all, a dress like this should make you feel beautiful, confident, and a little sassy. ;-)

Oh, and don't forget to add a swipe of your favorite pink lipstick or gloss to finish the look. I'm wearing my current favorite here, which I discovered months ago on a whim during my millionth trip to Target (gotta love Target!) and get tons of questions about. At a little over $5 for a long-lasting tube, you really can't go wrong. "HD Spark" is a highly-pigmented fuchsia shade and my color of choice from this line. (Tip: layer a clear gloss over it if you find the matte formula too drying for your liking.)

I hope you love this "flirty fuchsia" look as much as I do!
As always, thanks so much for stopping by and I hope your day is a beautiful and stylish one!

Hi, Everyone!

It's been awhile! As many of you know, I recently returned from a Spring Break family vacation, which was a perfect warm-weather getaway. The lush, tropical surroundings, the warm, crystal waters, and the soft, white sands were all slices of paradise! While away, it was important for me to really be in the moment and spend quality time with my hubby and the kiddos, so I restricted my social media activity to only my daily Instagram posts. We had such an amazing time, and I hope you enjoyed seeing several of the snaps I shared via my Insta-stories! Thank you for all your sweet comments while I was away! I read every single one and appreciated all of them, even if I wasn't immediately able to respond to all of them. Thanks for your patience during that time! For those of you who requested it, I plan on putting together a separate blog post with all my travel outfits/favorite resort wear pieces, which I hope will provide a little vacation-style inspiration. ;-)

Now, onto this outfit! How adorable is this Flora Dress? The print is absolutely darling with the intermixed stripes and diamond patterns, which consist of micro florals in varying shades of red and blue. They give it a slightly bohemian-romantic vibe, which I love. It's also really nice quality: fully-lined, zips up the back, airy and silky, and not wrinkle-prone. The silhouette is really lovely and flattering as well. It nips in at the waist and then gently flares out into a slight A-line. I'm also smitten with the flutter sleeves. So, so cute!

This dress has become quite popular, and several sizes have already sold out, but as I always say, bookmark it online and keep checking back for pop-backs if your size is currently sold out. Sizes are often re-stocked, so keep your eyes peeled!

Update (4/25/17):
I'm so happy to report that this dress has been re-stocked online in all sizes! I'm sure it will sell out quickly again, so if you've been eyeing it, snag it while you can!

I'm styling this dress a couple of ways. It's darling on its own, of course, but for more visual interest and a dash of extra color, I added a long, mustard cardi that I simply tied at the waist. Tying the cardi instead of wearing it unbuttoned highlights the narrowest part of the waist and gives it a dressy-casual look. This is a look I'd wear on the weekends if grabbing lunch with friends or running some quick errands; it's easy and effortless yet still pretty.

For the second look, I swapped out the cardi for a cropped jean jacket. Similar to the cardi, the jean jacket adds a nice textural element to the overall look, highlights the waist with its cropped fit, and also provides a light layer for those breezy, chilly Spring days. It also pairs well with strappy, nude sandals and a woven tote like I'm wearing here with both looks. Add a cute panama hat and a pair of sunnies, and you're set. I love simple outfits like this when I'm on the go!

Pieces that can be styled multiple ways will never fail you, and this dress is a perfect example of that. Its versatility and charm make it such a perfect Spring/Summer staple. Switch up the look easily with a casual-cute pair of neutral slides or lace-up flats, or polish it up with a tailored blazer and a sleek pair of pumps for a professional-chic look. I'm a huge proponent of re-styling and re-mixing your favorite wardrobe items to get the most use out of them, and this is easily achieved here with just a few simple changes.
