Summer Style: Seersucker Bow Dress

What epitomizes Summer style more than seersucker? It's crisp, lightweight, and breathable, making it ideal for those days where you want to look pretty and pulled together while also trying to combat scorching temperatures (like the 112-degree heatwave that hit L.A. this past week!).

Cue this Striped Seersucker Dress, which I have affectionately termed "the Seersucker Bow Dress." This pink and ivory seersucker dress may look like any other fit-and-flare dress, but it's actually even sweeter with its surprise in the back: a fuchsia grosgrain ribbon bow!

It fits my style to a T; it's classic with a modern, feminine twist. The bubble gum-pink ribbon ties at the back of the neck, just above a keyhole cut-out in the dress, adding that extra, special touch that I always seem to gravitate towards. It's so darling! The back-zipper closure comes up to just above the bra-band line, so no special bra is needed, and the ribbons are attached at the top of each side. The tied bow finishes the dress beautifully.

The icing on the cake for me was the sale price. It was marked down to $50 with free shipping during a flash sale that ran last month (retail value listed as $118, so over 50% off!) and of course I snapped it up. It's still a steal at the current sale price of $59.99 + $5 flat-rate shipping, and most sizes are still available!

I ordered the smallest size available, size 00, based on the size chart and was thrilled to find that the dress fit nicely straight out of the package. The waist runs about a 1/2" wide on me, but it leaves enough room for any large meals, so I'm totally fine with it. ;-) The length is perfect, hitting me right above the knees (I'm 5'2" for reference) and the flared skirt makes for some fun twirling, too!

The dress is cotton with a hint of spandex, so it's slightly stretchy and contours your shape nicely. It's also fully-lined and machine-washable. Cute, comfy, and low-maintenance? Yes, please! This dress is easily one of my favorites this season, and I can see it being worn to multiple functions: bridal or baby showers, brunch dates, or even just fun lunch/dinner outings with friends and family. It's the very definition of easy-breezy; just throw it on and go.

In addition to the traditional blue/white seersucker options, I'm noticing a host of other options available in softer hues that I'm loving. Yellow, peach, and pink are all fresh takes on seersucker, and remind me of ice cream sherbet -- a fitting description, actually, since the word "seersucker" is derived from the ancient Persian (Farsi) phrase "šhīr o šhakar" which literally means "milk and sugar." The "milk" refers to the smooth part of the stripes in the fabric; the "sugar" refers to the rough ones. ;-)

Here are the other seersucker pieces that have been catching my eye:

So many pretty, colorful options to choose from! I couldn't resist the yellow seersucker peplum cami that's only $35. I mean, look at the shoulder ties! *all the heart-eyes*

I also adore this nectarine seersucker tie-cuff blazer and pencil skirt -- such a charming set that can be mixed and matched for the office and the weekend, and the color is so unique!

Which are some of your favorite seersucker pieces?
As always, thanks for stopping by!

Happy Sunday, Everyone!

I'm popping in really quick to share a few sale alerts and mini reviews with you -- they're just too good not to share!

First, I want to highlight the Kate Spade Summer Sale event, where all sale items are now an additional 30% off with code "SUNNY" now through Wednesday, July 5th.  All items ship for FREE within the U.S., too (with free returns)!

From pretty sundresses to colorful handbags and fun, whimsical accessories that are notoriously Kate Spade, there's always something of hers on my wish list. Thankfully for my wallet, a few of the things I've been eyeing for some time are now included in this sale, so my patience has finally paid off! I finally pulled the trigger on this Lantern Poplin Flounce Dress (#7 above.) The striking cobalt-blue and white color combo, the intricate tile pattern, the square neckline -- there's just so much to love about this dress! It's a gorgeous, cotton, fit-and-flare dress with a hint of stretch, perfect for all Summer events. I can't wait to wear it! I sized up based on the online reviews and ordered a size 0. (Note: the smallest size available is size 00, which runs really small in the bust at only 31.5" and measures 24" at the waist and 34" in the hips. By comparison, the size 0 measures 32.5" in the bust, 25" in the waist, and 35" in the hips. If you have a larger bust, you may wish to size up 1 - 2 sizes.) I'm hoping it fits since it's final sale.

I'm also considering the Hayes Street Small Isobel bag (#1 above, now only #195.30; also available in "warm guava," now only $161) and the Morris Lane Alli wallet (#13 above, now only $62.30.) The saffron color is my favorite this season -- it's such a fun burst of color! Who am I kidding, though; all of the Kate Spade color offerings are yummy and I'm like the proverbial kid in a candy store. (lol)

Ezra Tassel Suede Sandals (top left, also seen in this blog post)
Striped Sweater Pencil Skirt (top right)
Jungle Floral Pencil Skirt (bottom)

My beloved blush tassel suede sandals that I wear all the time are now only $88.80! They come in a light grey option and a black option, too. They're super comfy and add a pretty pop of color with everything from skirts, dresses, and jeans.

This classic, striped pencil skirt is a great option to just throw on and go. Dress it up for the office with a drapey blouse and pumps or dress it down with a casual tank and wedges -- you can't go wrong either way. It's a nice, stretchy fabric and has a good weight to it, so it's both flattering and forgiving. It's a pull-on style, so no fussing with zippers, which is always a plus. The stripes look black in the photo, but they're actually navy, which pairs well with multiple other colors. It's now only $41.99.

How beautiful is this "jungle floral" print? The colors are even more vivid in-person. This skirt is truly a stunner and one I've already worn countless times. It's another Summer staple that looks lovely with a blouse, blazer or pumps for the office or with a simple tank or chambray top and sandals for the weekend. Love it to pieces and it's now only $29.99.

Spotted Mixed Media Dot Shell (top left, bottom right)
Painterly Floral Shirtdress (top right)
Botanic Cold Shoulder Dress (bottom left)

If you're loving all things yellow right now like I am, you need this shell stat. It instantly brightens up any outfit and, in turn, your mood. Yellow just has that kind of effect, right? The small dots on this blouse make it even cuter. I've worn this blouse with flair skirts (as styled above) and white jeans and love both pairings. Add a pair of cognac wedges or turquoise block-heeled sandals and you have another easy-breezy Summer look. Snag it for only $17.99.

This painterly dress was an unexpected fitting-room favorite. Initially, I wasn't drawn to it when seeing it on the hanger, but after trying it on, I ended up taking it home with me. It's a darling shirt-dress style that ties at the waist, but what really sold me on it were the pockets (of course) and the fact that I could slip it on and off over my head without having to unbutton it at all -- that's a win in my book. The belt cinches the waist and it gives it a flattering shape, and the fabric is lightweight. (Note: one small caveat is that it's not cotton, but rayon, so to avoid possible shrinkage, I suggest you dry-clean it.) Add sandals and an optional cardi or denim jacket for when it gets chilly, and you're set. Snag it while sizes remain for only $38.93. Stock is very limited.

Who doesn't love a pretty toile? It always reminds me of vintage china (which I collect) or beautiful French countryside linens/textiles. I adore this one in its soft shade of red, which actually looks like a cross between red and pink. It's perfectly feminine and flowy and is one of those pieces that looks darling on everyone I've seen it on. (See it HERE on Jess of What Jess Wore.) It's a modest midi length, which I love, and drapes beautifully on the body giving it an ethereal quality. It's a total steal at only $50.93.

Charlotte Russe
Get 30% off everything + FREE shipping when you spend $30 or more today only (no code needed.) Valid online only and standard ground shipping within the U.S. only. Sale excludes clearance and beauty items.

Charlotte Russe? Wait, what? I know! I rarely shop at these trendy-fashion or junior-style stores, so no one was more surprised than I was to recently stumble on a few gems there, but lo and behold, they've become immediate favorites and actually fit me well right off the rack -- who knew? I shared a few cell phone snaps of them last week on Instagram and in my Instastories and wanted to post them here, too, in case you're looking for a few inexpensive items to add to your Summer wardrobe.
Crochet Lace Bib-Neck Bodycon Dress (XS) (top left)
Lace Bralettes
Floral Ruffle-Trim Cold Shoulder Dress (S) (bottom)

This crochet lace dress is, in a word, amazing and now only $23! The fit is super flattering, showing all the right curves while still holding an element of sophistication. The floral lace is what captivated me, and I'm pleased to say that it's of good quality, too. It's easy to slip on and off with a side-zipper closure, and is fully lined to about mid-thigh length, allowing the lace to peek through at the hem, which I love. The back of the dress dips down a bit, but I managed to push my regular bra band down to conceal it without any problems. This dress will be on heavy rotation for all my dressy Summer events, believe me.

This floral ruffle dress was another pleasant fitting-room surprise, and at only $21, I didn't even hesitate. I adore the lilac florals and the ruffled neckline and sleeves -- so very pretty! Size small is a little big on me in the waist, but doesn't deter me since this dress style is meant to be airy and flowy. The neckline is a little low, even after adjusting the spaghetti straps, so I picked up a few of the lace bralettes in similar mauve and lilac hues to pair with it. It's such a romantic look! Also, if you've been on the hunt for a few pretty flare skirts or tulle skirts, be sure to scroll through the below sale picks because I've spied some that are definitely worth checking out!

Office Style: Peonies & Pleats + Sale Alert

Peonies and pleats in one outfit? Yep. You already know this is one of my favorite office looks. I mean, if this outfit doesn't scream "Sara," I don't know what does. I adore this feminine office look so much and am excited to finally be sharing it with you after a sneak peek on my Instagram last month.

(Quick side note: sorry it's taken me awhile to get a new outfit post up on the blog, but as a busy mom of 3, amongst so many other things, carving out time for blog post prep is sometimes quite the feat. I know you other mamas and boss ladies who juggle a myriad of tasks on any given day can relate, so thanks for your patience and understanding -- it always means a lot! Virtual hugs for all of you.)

You know I'm always partial to pretty prints, especially florals this time of year, but add eye-catching peonies in soft, pastel hues,  flutter sleeves, and I may as well just hand over my wallet. (lol) LOFT really hit it out of the park with this Peony Ruffle Henley Blouse. Thankfully, it was a great sale score and a beautiful one at that. I've already worn it countless times and have received compliments galore. The peonies steal the show. (Don't they always?) I love the richness of the navy background in contrast to the pastel peonies, and the drapey fit and the ruffle/flutter sleeves are just cherries on top.

I've said it before, but Ann Taylor/LOFT really have some of the best blouses for both work wear and casual wear; these blouses are on constant rotation in my wardrobe because they can be styled a number of ways from skirts and heels to jeans and sandals. They're so versatile for the office or after-hours, plus they wash and wear really well. They're fairly wrinkle-resistant and machine-washable, which is a plus in my book for their low maintenance.
(Small care tip: I wash the majority of my AT/LOFT blouses on the gentle cycle and then simply hang them to air dry. This prolongs their life. I'll make the exception to dry clean them only if they're made from rayon and I'm concerned about shrinkage or if they're made from a delicate fabric like silk and require the extra care.)

This peony blouse sold out quickly online, but I've noticed the occasional pop-back in select sizes. I was also pleased to see this print offered in a maternity blouse, a maternity tee, a grey tee, a dress, a maxi skirt, and a scarf. (FYI, the scarf is still in stock!) It's always nice to have several clothing options when you're drawn to a specific print/textile, so kudos to LOFT for getting it right. This same henley-style blouse is also offered in solid colors here if you're just not keen on prints. They come in regular and petite sizing, too.

I'm wearing size XXSP for reference, and it still has a slightly loose, flowy fit. It looks nice un-tucked and worn with jeans as well, thanks to the shirttail hem.

LOFT is currently having an awesome flash sale where you can get 50% off their summer steals (select full-price items) and sale items with code "FLASH." Sale ends Tuesday, June 20th, at 7am, PST (10am, EST) so act quickly! Ready, set, shop here!

There are so many swoon-worthy pieces this season -- scroll through to see them all! And with the flash sale, most are under $30!

This pleated skirt is the front-runner of all the pleated skirts I own. The blush color is delicate and beautiful, and the accordion pleats are understated and flattering. Believe me when I say that not all pleats are created equal. Some add unsightly bulk and volume, especially in the hip area, which is always a no-go for me (box pleats, for example, can be tricky if they're not set properly and don't lie flat. Yikes.)

This skirt is from Ann Taylor about a year ago or so and no longer available, but I was thrilled to find this one, which is nearly identical in both the color and style, and equally lovely. It's also currently on sale for only $42! It comes in white, too. Another pretty option is this one for less than $40. I happen to love the floral cardi that's styled with it in the stock photo as well! Both would work well for the office, with the cardi adding an additional layer for the polar chill of the over-air conditioned office (seriously, why is someone always tampering with the thermostat?)

Creamy-nude accessories keep the look airy and fresh. I chose my trusty bow (faux) suede pumps from Forever 21, which are also older and look far more luxe than their super-affordable price point, but I'm also loving these and these, if you're looking for a similar pair. Nude or blush bow pumps are a definite must-have if you're a lover of feminine style like I am.

This cream toggle satchel was another great sale find that I happened to come across at the Coach Factory Outlet a few years ago, but this one and this one are great, classic alternatives that I'd happily carry as well.

I kept my jewelry minimal with these new favorite Pave Stone Stud Earrings from LOFT, which are a recent purchase and included in the current flash sale for only $9.99 with code "FLASH." Snap these up at this price while you can -- they're so elegant and will go with everything! They come in other colors, but I went with the white, which are very reminiscent of the Kate Spade Seaport Pearl earrings I love so much (but at a fraction of the price.)

My stretchy pearl bracelet is old from the Ann Taylor Factory Stores, but this one and this one are both classy, too.

And there you have another one of my favorite office looks! It's easy, yet polished and pretty. It's also lightweight and perfect for these hot, arid, summer days.

Summer Style: Villa Dress & Ezra Tassel Suede Sandals

With temperatures hovering in the 90's this time of year in L.A., light and airy sundresses are an absolute must. As a dress-lover to the core, Summer is one of my favorite seasons for this very reason: just throw on a pretty dress and go. No fuss, no muss, and no worrying about mixing this or that blouse with that skirt or pair of pants. It makes for easy outfit planning and can get you out the door in a pinch when you're pressed for time -- gotta love that!

Cream or white dresses, in particular, are some of my top picks this time of year because they're crisp and fresh and serve as the perfect backdrop for my favorite colorful accessories.

I was immediately drawn to this beautiful Villa Dress from LOFT. I'm finally getting around to posting it here on the blog, but I've already worn it several times and featured it on my Instagram over the past month or so (be sure to follow me there if you're not already; I share daily outfits, style inspiration, sale alerts, and more!).

There's so much to love about this dress: the soft, "whisper white" color, the ruffled off-the-shoulder sleeves, the crochet lace inset detailing and trim along the hem, and the flattering fit-n-flare silhouette. It's so lovely and romantic!

I took size XXS, and for LOFT dresses, I'd say it fits true-to-size. It fits perfectly sans alterations (note: for fit reference, I'm 5'2", about 100 lbs., and measure 34-25-36.) It is slightly tight across the bust on me, but not uncomfortably so. Slipping into the dress is a bit tricky at first due to the shoulder straps and the off-the-shoulder ruffled sleeves; they're easy to get tangled if you're not careful, so you have to be more deliberate with your hand placement to avoid any frustration. But once you get into the sleeves correctly, it's easy to just zip yourself in with the side zipper. The dress is fully lined, which I love, so lighter undergarments are nicely concealed, and the midi length is refreshingly modest, hitting right below the knees.

It's a great "event" dress: wear it to a bridal party, baby shower, luncheon, graduation party, or Sunday brunch. Every time I wear it, I get tons of questions and compliments on it, even from my fellow LOFT "girls" (associates) when shopping at my local store!

This dress is currently an additional 40% off, bringing it to just under $33 -- such a steal! (Original retail price: $89.50.) No code is needed online, however the dress is marked as "final sale" with no exchanges or returns accepted. Also, sizes are fairly limited online. That said, I've noticed several sizes popping back over the past few weeks, so be sure to bookmark the product page and keep checking back if your size is out of stock. I've scored several items this way!

I've rounded up a few more cream/white, cold-shoulder dresses that would be great options for Summer as well.

White Cold-Shoulder Dresses for Summer

In keeping with the romantic feel of this dress, I styled it with pretty pastels in hues of blush and aqua. These Ezra Suede Tassel Sandals in "paloma" (blush-pink) from Ann Taylor are the cutest and are oh-so-comfy, too! The heels aren't too high, measuring about 3 inches, and the footbed is padded, which makes all the difference in the world. I wear heels often and these sandals don't pinch or squeeze my feet at all. I can wear them for hours on end without any issues. The tassel ties do tend to untie while you're walking, so just be sure to tie and knot them tightly to avoid this minor annoyance. These sandals are currently $50 off with code "RSVP" which brings them to just under $100 (original retail: $148.) They come in a pretty light grey color and a black color, too. I took size 5.5, which fits true-to-size for Ann Taylor shoes for me. They've received several glowing, 5-star ratings online for both their beauty and comfort, and I couldn't agree more -- love them and highly recommend them, especially for Summer! Snag them on sale while they last!

My aqua tote is a few years old from Kate Spade and no longer available online, but I've found a few really similar KS ones I'm loving here, here, and here. Blush and aqua play off each other nicely, and keep the overall look light and airy while still adding small splashes of color against the crispness of the dress.

This has been one of my favorite Summer looks so far. There's just something about easy-breezy dresses in a soft color palette, don't you think?  What are some of your favorite warm-weather pieces?

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you have a great day!
